Contributors purchase a Hivemapper dashcam, mount it to their windshield, and simply drive. As they go, the camera captures fresh street-level imagery that feeds directly into Hivemapper's map. In return, contributors earn HONEY tokens — the protocol's native cryptocurrency — proportional to the quality and uniqueness of the roads they cover.
The result is a self-organizing, globally distributed mapping fleet that grows wherever people drive. No central dispatch. No leased vehicles. No geographic deployment plans. The network scales organically because the incentives align: contributors earn more by covering unmapped or outdated roads, which is precisely where the data is most needed.
Why This Is Genuinely Impressive
